Rep. Lindsey Seeks Solutions on Public Education

Because the members of the Board of Directors and staff of the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program believe that parents should have many choices for the education of their children, we support all good faith efforts to improve both public and private schools. For this reason, we applaud the manner in which Georgia Representative and Majority Whip Edward Lindsey (R-Atlanta) participated in an online discussion on Sunday afternoon, August 19, on Maureen Downey's Get Schooled education blog in the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. During a discussion that covered several hours of back and forth with Georgia parents, public school teachers and administrators, and other citizens, Rep. Lindsey sought some straightforward answers to his few key questions about how to improve public education. Although most of the reader responses focused on the usual plea for increased spending and offered few tangible reform proposals, the openness, patience, and obvious concern exhibited by Rep. Lindsey was commendable. We salute him for his leadership.
